Wild Turkeys Haiku

three turkeys forage
along the side of the road
on my way to work

goldfinch lights on grass
edges up the stalk to peck
at the ripened seeds

mind open and kindly toward
flat water, screaming children,
power tools

wind moving across the water
birdsong bullfrog
dragonfly chainsaw

when the chainsaw falls still
flash of red
against black wings

san francisco streets
wrought iron gate, open sky
urban oasis

blue mosaic pool
low chairs arranged artfully
artwork, fountains, fire

outside, the homeless
squeal of buses, 6am
unmerited gifts

Copley Plaza, lunch:
wind flaps the ropes of flagpoles
sun opens our coats

hug the trees awake
feel the sap rising within
outside, no jacket

march like a song, sad sigh
sun beats from the cloudless sky
dry sinus, cold hands

clouds obscure the sun
al fresco lunch in winter
dirty snow, green grass

afternoon sun slants
shows the marsh in a new light
witch hazel, hemlock

three deer in the trees
bound away with startled tails
tiny wild island
