For Robin
I want to kiss you at all the joinings of your body:
where the neck meets the shoulders,
where the ear meets the neck,
where the forearm meets the hand,
where your two legs kiss,
and where your arms will meet your torso.
I will kiss the joining of your hairline
with your brow,
and the hairline with your neck,
and the hairline with the delta of your center,
where legs and torso meet,
and where the longest bone in your body meets
the necessary shins, and all the muscles of the calves,
that soft
island of honey behind your knees
where you hide the side of you that no one sees
but me.
I see it.
Laid out on the bed before me, a private wonderland,
a symphony in cream and brown,
I am continually amazed at the contours of your body,
and the contours of the mind that it contains
like mine, all hilled and rugged,
full of hidden glades and hollows,
satyrs in the thickets,
and nymphs, everywhere nymphs and dryads,
singing their songs to the greenery.
