Prosies

Chesapeake Bay
First sunset

The sun kisses the earth
and the sky blushes.
Moon, pregnant, stands watch.

The wind kisses the sea.
This is not the ocean
of Yemaya.
This is not Oshun’s domain.
This is something different: familiar
but foreign.

I have never been in a place like this.
A watched pot does not boil.
I want to write to you
to tell you how it feels
to step off the edge of a gift
and land in the cool brown waters
belonging to a Goddess
whose name I do not know.
